It’s election time in the US
It’s election time in the US and we are living in a turbulent atmosphere right now with so many difficult issues of our past being highlighted by our current political climate during an election year. The year 2020 started off like any other with high hopes for so many people, new year resolutions, vacation plans, work projects, school, family gatherings, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and graduations. Little did we know then that this year would turn into such chaos and heartbreak due to Covid-19, the destruction of our economy, people’s lives, businesses, the social unrest, protests, and riots.
‘We the people’ vote for our elected officials - our ‘representatives’ to work on our behalf, to represent our interest. It is our responsibility as ‘the people’ to research our public officials … what do their actions tell you? Share on X
It’s almost time to vote
It feels like many of our current conversations have turned into accusations and hatred for — the left or the right — take your pick. It does not matter which side you are on — both sides are destructive in their own ways. Both sides of the aisle have egg on their faces for their lack of respect for their jobs, their commitment to work on our behalf, they seem to have forgotten that they work “for the people”. And, we are all — as United States citizens — responsible for voting and holding our representatives accountable for doing their jobs.
In an election year
We have to come together as a nation and do the right thing, do the best thing in every area, earn our place on the global stage as a nation of strength. Work to improve in every area of our country. To upgrade our policies, systems, and structures – as we work to build a better economy, education, and health care system for all Americans.
We have many issues to vote on in this election:
- Our education and health-care systems are broken
- Immigration policies need updating
- Social justice and racism are eating away at the very fabric of our country
- Our economy has taken a big hit with Covid-19 and nationwide shut-downs
Many people feel a need to re-evaluate our priorities:
- It’s to get back to basics, invest in our country
- Invest in our health care and educational systems for a better tomorrow
- Invest in our infrastructure, take care of our veterans
- Bring manufacturing back to the United States
- Regain our independence and strength as a nation from the inside out
The job of our elected officials, as our representatives, is to do what is best for the country as a WHOLE. To come to their meeting with one common goal in mind, to seek, create, and implement solutions to move our country and citizens forward, safely, and economically. Their job as our elected officials, as our representatives, is to vote for our goals, to champion our health and safety, work to create harmony within our country by creating equality, prosperity, and safety for all citizens.
‘We the people’ vote for our government ‘representatives’ to represent our interest, community development, and safety. It is our responsibility as ‘the people’ to research our potential and current public servants … what do their actions tell you?
Pay attention to their voting record:
- Look at what they DO — while listening to what they SAY …
- Do they do what they say they are going to do?
- What is their history, resume, commitment to service?
- Do they show up to work with integrity and champion our safety?
- What have they voted for on our behalf in their career?
- Do they keep their commitments? Do they show up to work and vote?
- Are integrity, respect, legal boundaries a priority?
- Do they vote on your behalf, based on their professed political mission?
- Do they have questionable associations and potential conflicts of interest?
- Have they broken the law in any way, at home, or at work?
- Do they vote fiscally responsible for the country?
