Cultural Diversity in The United States
Cultural diversity is a natural extension of life, movement, travel, and exploration. It is the existence of a variety of ethnic and cultural groups within a community and society at large. The United States of America is indeed a melting pot of cultural diversity. We began our great country with immigrants from Europe as settlers came here to start anew.
The Statue of Liberty
The statue was herself an immigrant. … Frenchman Edouardo de Laboulaye had the original idea for the statue around 1865. He recognized the United States as a nation that honored freedom, liberty, and democracy.
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
A monoculture in farming is the practice of planting and growing a single crop — instead of rotating crops on the same land. The monoculture practice in farming is damaging to the soil, and as a result, the crops suffer — and so it is with society. We ‘the people’ benefit from diversity in culture by learning from others.
A Monoculture in Society
Monoculture in society means the culture is led or dominated by a single shared belief, objective, or other elements that define the group. Monoculturalism is the policy or process of supporting, advocating or allowing the expression of the culture of a single social or ethnic group. It also involves the operation of assimilation, whereby other ethnic groups are expected to adopt the culture and practices of the dominant ethnic group.
The United States of America is the third-largest country in the world, with a population of more than 325 million, according to the US Census Bureau. A child is born every 8 seconds, a person dies every 12 seconds, and — a new immigrant moves to the United States every 33 seconds, according to the Census Bureau.
The United States of America is a true melting pot
The United States of America is a true melting pot of cultural diversity — a real work in progress. We have citizens from nearly every region of the world represented in these United States of America. We were established by the English in the 1600s and have been shaped by Native Americans, Latin Americans, Africans, and Asians.
The United States is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. We are proud to have such a diverse ethnic make up and enjoy the benefits of cultural diversity. We learn from our neighbors, we develop rich ties with other cultures, and cultivate a desire to travel and explore. When we embrace people from around the world, we expand our abilities, our knowledge, and innovation. When we embrace cultural diversity, we teach acceptance, understanding, and respect of our differences and thus deepen our compassion for humanity and fellow citizens — we are all born children of God and the world.
