Respecting the Office of the President
Respecting the office of the president can be a challenge sometimes, you do not have to like the president, it is not likely that everyone will like the president and what he does, it’s the nature of life. However, the President deserves to be respected, whether you like him or not, plain and simple. We live in a civilized society and we value common courtesy, good manners, and basic human decency. We have an inherent expectation that we behave appropriately with others, even when we disagree with them. And, two wrongs do not make a right. There are legal ways to initiate change and voting is the most effective.
This is the reason we have multiple political parties and ideologies, we have many differing opinions about how to approach social subjects. As a result, we have The US Constitution and The Bill of Rights — the rules of law that we live by. It is important that we have laws, we respect the laws and the law enforcement officers — this is how we keep society safe for everyone.
The office of the President
Our forefathers were brilliant in their vision of The United States of America. They designed our government with multiple layers of checks and balances to ensure that our elected ‘representatives’ were not able to run over each other. Ideally, the different components of the government will work together on our behalf and respect the office of the president, like him or not.
The branches of our Federal Government are:
- Legislative Branch — they make the laws
- Congress — is made up of two houses
- House of Representative and The Senate
- Executive Branch — enforces the laws
- Judicial Branch — interpret the laws
Each branch of the Federal Government has powers that are vested by the U.S. Constitution in the Congress, the President, and the Federal courts, respectively. They are all elected officials that are acting as public servants on our behalf — as our representatives. It is their job to represent our best interest, not theirs. It is our responsibility to investigate the parties running for office, make sure their values match ours, make sure their commitment is to us, and ensure that they are honest.
